Chapter 9: Let It Begin
Sorry for the long delay, I have been hard at work and play. This past Saturday night was a wonderful way to get the season rolling with a lively crowd and plenty of great soccer action. The game was a way of showcasing new talent and giving the boys a chance to get to know one another before the big season opener and Open Cup match, even though many still are making their way to Des Moines.
I have spent the past several days making taxi trips to the airport but I could not be more excited for the task. It gives me a chance to meet some of my new teammates while sharing stories with my best pals who are back again for another Menace season.
With the first game only days away the boys seem poised and ready to play. The task of winning is challenging as names are still being learned, but all 65 PDL teams are faced with the same challenge. I know Casey as spent several months gathering a group of players that he believes in. I know he has formed a group who are more interested in being apart of this team than their own personal glory. I know we all believe in him and whatever happens happens as we are all in this together.
I am not all too familiar with my teammates, but I will believe in them through the ups and downs of this season. We are all here to win but there is so much more to be gained. We have the chance to be apart of a community, we have the chance be apart of a team and we have the chance to better ourselves on and off the field. No matter if we win a championship our not, I believe everyone involved in this organization will enjoy this journey: fans, players, coaches and staff.
Come out and join me Saturday as I take the field for the first time with my new Menace family. I can not guarantee a victory but I can guarantee that we will give everything we have for 90 minutes in hopes of spreading our immense soccer passion.
