Chapter 7: My window

I spent the past weekend in a somewhat small stand communicating with the outside world through a screen at the front counter.  I took my post manning the window answering the demand of frantic parents and exhausted girls.  The temperature of my weekend home rivaled that of the outside world since the space heater could not provide enough heat to truly make a difference.

In the seemingly miserable conditions, I still found a way to enjoy the confines of my post.  I had a weekend long smile that could be partly related to Adam Small (my fellow colleague) or the purity of youth sports and the excitement that surrounds competition.  I was unaware that he could dance.  If you did not know any better you would think he had done it before.

The lines were long at times as parents tried to escape the cold by sipping on cups of hot chocolate and coffee, but the fix must have been short lived as they entered the line again and again.  Thoughts of my youth soccer days were present as I peered out the window on a world that seemed to come and go so quickly.  Before they know it, they will be sitting in my same position remembering this very weekend.  Well, hopefully not in the concession stand of a soccer tournament but you know what I mean.
