Chapter 11: Hanging Out

Just the other day I had the chance to go to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School and speak to the second grade.  When I arrived, the kids were anxious to get the program started but maybe that was just to get the Menace freebees that accompanied me.  The topic of conversation was sportsmanship and being a part of a team.  The speech did not last long but the children listened closely as their eyes filled with interest.  I knew I had to keep it short and too the point for I knew I would not have their attention very long.  At the conclusion of the presentation hands flew into the air as everyone was eager to ask a question.  Some questions were relevant as others were way of subject but kids just say whatever comes to their mind; you’ve got to love it.  I even had a kid tell me a five minute story about how his brother plays the trumpet!!  This is the part of the job I love.  I am glad I get the chance to interact with children and give them someone to look up too even if I am not perfect one-hundred percent of the time.
